Sexual Wellness Tips and Tricks: How Good Is Your Sex IQ?

Last year, our MyJane MyStory podcast had Tiffany Yelverton as a guest to talk about sexual wellness and pleasure. Tiffany is the founder, CEO and Chief Sexinista of Entice Me, and a professional sexual wellness coach.

Tiffany became a sexual wellness coach after breaking up with a narcissist (relatable!). After her unsatisfying relationship, she decided to pursue a more fulfilling sex-life, and began her education into sexual pleasure and wellness.

She found that women, especially young women, are not taught the pleasures of sex, only the consequences. Through this journey, she learned about her own body, and had her first orgasm. This process was so life-changing, it made her want to teach others!

Why Great Sex is So Great for You

Sex is an everyday, healthy experience that can be with yourself or another person, and it has a lot of health benefits!

Tiffany shared with us that 3 orgasms a week can cut down heart disease 50%, make your skin (and everything else) look better, reduce stress, and increase happiness. “We could really have world peace if everyone had more orgasms,” she says.

The Problem With Sex

Some of the most common problems that Tiffany encounters in her coaching sessions include:

  • Painful sex
  • Body shame
  • Never learning about sex
  • Overthinking
  • Not putting ourselves first

Women have a hard time getting out of their heads and enjoying the experience of sex. Tiffany explains that most women are circular thinkers, while most men are linear thinkers. This means that instead of focusing on the moment women tend to think about peripheral things around the room, or their day.

Some of the solutions that Tiffany shares to overcome overthinking are to figure out the limiting beliefs we hold about ourselves that get in the way. For example, some women think that they don’t deserve pleasure, at all! How can you help but overthink, in that case?

Another helpful tip is to utilize non-sexual, self-touch. Touching our bodies in areas other than our genitals to see ourselves and feel our bodies for what they are. We often don’t take the time to feel our bodies, beyond washing ourselves or applying lotion. This method is all about getting back “in touch” with our bodies.

CBD, Cannabis, and Sex

Tiffany works with many menopausal women and cancer survivors who can experience a lot of pain during sex. In her experience, these women in particular benefit from cannabis’s relaxing properties, allowing them to sink into the pleasures of touch.

But all women can benefit from the use of CBD-infused lubricants and suppositories, especially for women who feel pain during sex and have tight pelvic floor muscles that need relaxation. Many women tend to hold tension in their pelvic floor, and that can make it very difficult to insert anything, which can make sex, whether alone or with a partner, very painful.

Try our specially curated CBD-infused lubricant from Sunmi Beauty and Lola Labs, created by doctors (Oncologist and an OBGyn) here: https://www.myjane.com/product/sunmi-beauty-lola-labs-sensualle-intimacy-oil/

3 Little Tips for Better Sex:

  1. Know yourself first: Have self-love and confidence, learning about your own pleasure, and being secure in your boundaries.
  2. Communicate: Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. You can phrase it as, “It really turns me on when…” or “I really feel connected to you when…” This encourages your partner to open the conversation for pleasure, rather than demanding things from them
  3. Self-Pleasure: An orgasm a day keeps the doctor away. Also, self-pleasure is the discovery process by which you can learn what makes your body tick.

This year, whether you’re with a partner or alone, we hope that you feel loved and experience the joy and pleasure that comes with great sex.
