Learn from Medical Experts – The Origin & Functions of the Endocannabinoid System
When you research information on a specific topic, you want to make sure you’re getting the most up-to-date content from a meaningful source.
Luckily, MyJane, ManifestSeven company specializing in the development of a women’s and wellness-focused channel sat down with Dr. Dung Trinh & Marlo Regalado to chat about the origin and benefits of the endocannabinoid system, the basics of CBD products on the market, and how to choose what types of CBD products are best for you.
Who is Dr. Dung Trinh?
Featured on MyJane’s Doctor’s corner, Dr. Trinh is a well-known keynote speaker, best-selling author, and health educator who speaks on various preventative health topics including Alzheimer’s risk reduction, sugar inflammation, ketosis, cancer risk reduction strategies, CBD, and the body’s endocannabinoid system.
Dr. Trinh is the chief medical officer for clinical research, a board member for The Alzheimer’s Orange County, and founder of the Physicians CBD Council.
The Physicians CBD Council is an organization whose mission is to advocate for medical research on cannabis and CBD as well as educating the public about the science behind CBD.
An impressive resume.
What’s the mission of the Physicians CBD Council?
For years, patients have been treated with various narcotics to treat their pain ailments. In his interview with MyJaneStory, Dr. Trinh said “With the increased education on CBD and cannabis, we see patients who are seeking to reduce their doses of pain medication such as Morphine, Vicodin, and other opioids that board-certified physicians are prescribing every day. “
With the mission and conviction to educate, Dr. Trinh founded The Physicians CBD Council. The Council consists of doctors and nurse practitioners with the sole purpose to simply advocate for additional research, educate the public, and destigmatize the use of CBD and cannabis-based products, using factual data.

The Origin and Science Behind The Endocannabinoid System
The Endocannabinoid System was discovered in the 1990s. Israel scientists first uncovered this system by dissecting the cannabis plant and conducting a study of the compounds within the human body. There are over a hundred compounds within the cannabis plant (both marijuana and hemp plants). These compounds are called “cannabinoids.” Out of the hundred or so compounds, the two most famous are THC and CBD.
THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the singular compound that causes the “high effect” or more elegantly put; Gives you the euphoric feeling once the psychoactive properties reach the brain.
During the Israel scientists’ research, they mapped the pathways of these compounds in order to understand where they ultimately ended up within the human body.
“They were able to map out an entire system that’s been there all along and we call this the ‘Endocannabinoid System.’ “Dr. Dung Trinh
According to Dr. Trinh, the Endocannabinoid System has been around for as long as our respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems have existed. With the evolution of knowledge and technology, researchers will possibly uncover new systems in our bodies over time. Scientists discovered the receptors that form the Endocannabinoid System only after researching the different compounds within the cannabis family of plants.
Upon further research and discovery, the Endocannabinoid System revealed to have more receptors than any other system within the human body.
“It has more receptors than your cardiac system, respiratory system and even has receptors on your immune system cells.”Dr. Dung Trinh

Purpose of The Endocannabinoid System.
The human body produces its own endocannabinoid hormones to bind and activate the system. The Endocannabinoid System’s purpose and goals are to bring your body into a state of balance.
In scientific terms, this balance is known as “homeostasis.”
Firstly, if you are familiar with the Ancient Chinese Philosophical symbol, Yin and Yang, you visually see an example of balance. Imagine if your body had more Yin than Yang, then, according to philosophy, it would be out of balance.
The endocannabinoid system keeps an eye out to maintain and/or correct that imbalance.
“When you have a fever, your body’s temperature is out of balance. It’s above that 98.6 range. Our body’s system recognizes it and activates to help bring down the body’s temperature and return to a state of balance.”Dr. Dung Trinh
Secondly, let’s say you’re trying to go to sleep and your circadian rhythm says “it’s bedtime” but your mind keeps running preventing you from sleeping.
Trouble sleeping is a way for your body to tell you, it’s out of balance. To adjust this imbalance, the natural endocannabinoid system kicks in and helps level everything out.
In the words of Dr. Trinh, the compounds within the marijuana and hemp plants, directly or indirectly seem to stimulate and activate the endocannabinoid system. It’s widely known that inflammation is at the core of most chronic diseases.
At the Physicians CBD Council, Dr. Trinh and his associates are compiling the research reports on CBD and the endocannabinoid system, categorizing it based on health conditions. Further discoveries will allow researchers to find new ways to stimulate the endocannabinoid system more efficiently.
“We have seen data on certain specific diseases where we have linked it to having a lack of endocannabinoid hormones.”Dr. Dung Trinh
An important tip from Dr. Dung Trinh
