Chicas Unidas: Leonor Varela, Author and Actress [Watch Video]
Continuing our series of clips from “Chicas Unidas,” a Hispanic Heritage celebration of Latinas where we can gather, and discuss topics on women’s wellness, professional development and female empowerment, we’d love to introduce you to Leonor Varela!
Leonor Varela, actress, author and environmentalist, shared these words of wisdom and encouragement during her talk: “I invite you ladies to live more in your emotions and vulnerabilities. It is here where you’ll know how mega-powerful you are.”
Leonor is the author of, “Ir al Cielo y Volver: Mi Camino con Matteo.” It’s an intimate diary about her life with her son, who had a rare genetic disease and a life expectancy of one to two years. Matteo lived until his 6th birthday and, throughout this journey with her son, Leonor experienced profound, unconditional love, even when her heart was broken.
Her message to us is that we all have a greater capacity to love; that it’s time to lay down our armor, open our hearts and lean into vulnerability. It is here that we will learn to accept ourselves, and others, whole-heartedly. We love this message and hope you do, too!
Watch the full video clip below to hear her tell us about how heartbreak can make us stronger, and be sure to join us for MyJane’s monthly HEMPowerment event on the third Thursday of every month. You can register for our next virtual event here: https://www.myjane.com/virtual-mixer/
