Chicas Unidas: Ashley Trevino and Karen Juárez, International Sanctuary Tijuana [Watch Video]
LatinaMeetup and MyJane have partnered to produce a virtual event called “Chicas Unidas,” a Hispanic Heritage celebration of Latinas where we can gather, and discuss topics on women’s wellness, professional development and female empowerment.
Two of the speakers we invited were Ashley Trevino, a survivor of human trafficking who now operates a successful bridal shop, and Karen Juárez from International Sanctuary Tijuana, which provides resources to women to both prevent human trafficking from happening, and to support and empower those who escape that life.
In this clip, Ashley tells us her emotional story of being an innocent, 14-year old girl, full of potential and hope for her future, and getting caught up in a situation that she never realized could happen to someone like her.
Both Ashley and Karen speak about the warning signs to look for, and provide tips to try to avoid getting in dangerous situations, advice that Ashley shares with her own 14-year old daughter, as well.
Karen also gives us more insight to what International Sanctuary Tijuana does, and how important their work truly is.
Watch the full video clip below to get these insights for yourself, and be sure to join us for MyJane’s monthly HEMPowerment event on the third Thursday of every month! You can register for the event here: https://www.myjane.com/virtual-mixer/
